Welcome to Healthy Aging For Women
Let me just say a few words about Healthy Aging For Women (HAW) and what it’s all about.
I don’t think it’s a stretch for me to say: “We all want to get healthy and stay that way”.
But that can be tough to do if you don’t have the right information. And let’s face it, it can be hard to find good information online and even more challenging to sort through all the data available today.
At times it’s even hard to know whom to trust and what to believe. Often there are so many conflicting ideas and reports that come up when searching online.
My site, Healthy Aging For Women (HAW) offers health, diet and fitness information pertaining to older women. Let’s face it, what we need and how we do things changes as we get older.
While HAW discusses and offers a multitude of health related topics, I will focus my attention on how you can utilize alternative/complimentary medicine as you get older, to help you stay healthy and young.
By the way, this does not mean you should forget about prophylactic screening tools available to you via allopathic or western medicine. No, not at all!
Mainstream, allopathic medicine is great when it comes to all types of medical intervention particularly when it involves emergencies. On the other side of the coin, allopathic medicine does not have much to offer when it comes to preventive strategies.
I know, western medicine employs all sorts of “preventive” tests, scans and so on… but it simply identifies conditions AFTER the fact.
Compare that to alternative medicine…
Alternative medicine is strong on prevention, true prevention. On the other side of the coin, alternative medicine is much weaker when it comes to emergency intervention.
Doesn’t that sound like a “match made in heaven” to you? It sure does to me!
Ideally, both allopathic and alternative medicine would be utilized in our healthcare system. Even though we still have miles to go to get there, I am confident that one day we will. But that doesn’t have to stop you and me from utilizing both.
I am a licensed Chinese Medicine professional (acupuncture & herbs) and am passionate about what alternative medicine has to offer, particularly as we grow older.
I encourage you to utilize the information and put into action what you learn. Enjoy and most importantly –
Johanna Hofmann, MAc., LAc.
